12 years have passed since polo has been re-introduced as a sport to modern Mongolia. The Mongols with their once mighty cavalry have a great history connected with this equestrian game they used to play it in the middle ages then polo was forgotten.
Besides the recent renaissance of polo in Mongolia the sport is now spreading rapidly in Asia - to the south of Mongolia now in China, soon west to Kazakhstan and to the east, in Korea and Japan. In all these areas polo was once practiced as a martial art on horseback.
Last year's Shangai Tang Polo Cup in Mongolia was won by a team from the GK Polo Club against a group of polo players coming from England, Australia, Singapore and China . The news of polo in Asia is spreading to the International Polo Community. Mongolia with hundreds of thousands of riders and millions of horses is here to play polo again in the 21st century.
The present tasks and policy of the Mongolian Polo Federation is an intensive training campaign for the next years, especially for the Young - boys and girls. For this, international help, in form of trainers and advisers, is most welcome.
In 2011 Children Polo Summer Training Camps will be set up in different provinces of the vast country. At the same time the pilot project at the Genghis Khan Polo and Riding Club is continued, offering the training facilities to local children and summer guests from the international community.
